ECUA bulk pickup vs. junk removal in Pensacola

Pile of cut brush and limbs stacked against a wooden fence

ECUA collects one bulk pile per week for Escambia County residential customers, by request only, with a size cap of 6 feet wide by 6 feet deep by 6 feet high. It is included with your sanitation service, and for a couple of items it is the right call. For anything bigger, heavier, indoors, or time-sensitive, a junk removal service fills the gap.

What ECUA bulk pickup covers

Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) handles residential sanitation for most of Escambia County, including Pensacola. Bulk pickup is part of that service, but it is not automatic. You have to request it online or by phone at 850-476-0480, and the request has to be in by 2:00 p.m. the day before your collection day.

ECUA collects one pile of bulk items per week, with a maximum size of 6 feet wide, 6 feet deep, and 6 feet high. Items go at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on collection day and no earlier than 48 hours before. Yard waste is handled separately: up to 20 bags per week plus two piles of cut limbs, covering leaves, pine straw, grass clippings, and small prunings.

What it does not cover

ECUA states plainly that yard waste does not include fencing or construction materials, and they cannot collect those. Bulk pickup is curbside only, so nothing comes out of your house, garage, or backyard. It runs on the county's schedule, and one pile per week means a full garage cleanout could take a month of curb piles.

Renovation debris, demolition material, and anything from a commercial property are outside the program entirely.

When junk removal makes more sense

Use a junk removal service when the pile is bigger than 6x6x6, when the items are inside and you do not want to drag them to the curb, when you are dealing with construction or fence debris, when you need it gone this week instead of next collection day, or when it is a rental, business, or estate property.

The trade-off is cost: ECUA bulk pickup is included in your sanitation bill, and junk removal is a paid service. For one old dresser, request the county pickup. For the sleeper sofa, the fridge, the fence panels, and the twelve boxes in the attic, one junk removal visit replaces a month of curb piles and a lot of lifting.

Outside ECUA's area

Santa Rosa County communities like Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Milton, and Pace are served by different haulers with their own bulk rules. Check your provider's site for the current limits. JunkOps serves both Santa Rosa and Escambia counties, with free estimates and 24/7 availability.
